DMC’s Mission Statement points out that the needs of the home building industry change over time. Perhaps the most significant change occurring in our industry today is the emergence of environmentally friendlier building practices. Therefore, if we are going to fulfill our Mission – to be the desired resource for quality products with exceptional service in meeting the changing needs of the construction and remodeling industry – DMC will need to act purposefully with respect to the “ Green Building ” phenomenon.

1) We will work with our supplier partners to understand how they are positioning their products and organizations for the green building industry, and support their efforts.

2) We will expand our own green practices in the way we run DMC. Current programs include:

a)      We bail and recycle all cardboard.

b)      We send wood skids back to manufacturers for re-use or to a recycler.

c)       Most soda cans and cut-off sill products are collected by DMC employees for recycling.

d)      Most office paper is sent to a recycler.

e)      We are installing energy-efficient lighting in our office and warehouse.

f)        We have taken steps to reduce idle time on DMC trucks.

g)      We have commissioned a team of DMC employees to identify and implement more environmentally-friendly, value-driven change opportunities.

3) We will play a role in educating builders and dealers in green practices and helping them develop their green strategies.

4) We will monitor the development/evolution of the green building movement and formally update our thinking and positioning as appropriate.
